With trendy, independent boutiques in almost every neighborhood, Austin is becoming as much a fashionista’s paradise as it is a destination for foodies and music-lovers. Along with all the emerging local labels, the city is home to plethora of vintage shops, thrift stores, and flea markets. Culture Trip has rounded up the top spots to go hunting for bargains.
Room Service Vintage
The first place to direct anyone hunting for vintage rarities and thrifty finds is North Loop Boulevard. Lined with countless thrift stores and second-hand shops, plus a few eateries and cocktail bars, the street is a one-stop shop for the bargain shopper. Room Service is one of the best, a 3,500-square foot space in an old pharmacy, packed with everything from furniture, jewelry, home décor, artwork, books, and more. Established in 1981, the store recently celebrated over 35 years as a favorite central Austin establishment. Be sure to follow their Instagram, where they post the latest finds: if you see something you like, call the store to reserve an item for up to two hours.

Velvet love is reflected in this week's window display. Why, yes, that is "The Duke" painted on black velvet and he's $125. The loveseat is $399. The badass 60s floor lamp is $249. Anything else you need to know about? Call to put anything on hold for 2 weeks (window times are different than regular store hold times).

Through innovative programs like the Puppy Parvo ICU and Dog Behavior Program, local charity Austin Pets Alive! has played a critical role in serving the city’s animals.
