Austin Scottish Rite Theater
Austin Scottish Rite is a non-profit theater residing in what used to be a German opera house. They’ve dedicated their company to establishing community through arts and frequently collaborate with local schools to offer after-school theater programs. The theater itself puts on plays for the whole family to enjoy, with some upcoming shows including Robin Hood and Maid Marians Wedding, Rosia Y Conchit: a Dia De Los Muertos Play in English and Spanish, Snow Queen, and Puff, The Magic Dragon. Tickets are reasonably priced and your kids will love singing and dancing along with their favorite performances.
Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
This Wildflower Center at the University of Texas (Austin) is great for exploring the beautiful floral and fauna native to the Lone Star State. They also offer family programs that allow your child to get hands-on experience with gardening. Take your toddlers to Sprouts, an ongoing Preschool program that leads you through their Family Garden, with each week focusing on a specific theme such as ‘insect investigation’ and more. For older kids they provide free magnifying glasses, books, binoculars, and more to enhance the possibilities of discovery.

Boggy Creek farm
Spend some time touring the Boggy Creek farm on Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 8am to 1pm. Kids will love the roaming chickens and parents will enjoy shopping for some locally grown fruit and vegetables whilst learning what it takes to produce fresh organic produce, gaining the skills needed to teach and teach your kids where their food comes from. This urban farm is a great option for learning, food, and fun in Austin.
Zilker is Austin’s largest and most well known public park. One of the favorite family-friendly activities to enjoy here is riding the Zilker Zephyr, a miniature train that offers a delightful tour of the local surroundings.
Austin Nature and Science Center
If you have any dinosaur lovers this might prove the perfect place to take your kid. Among the many educational exhibits held is the Dino Pit, a year-round paleontology exhibit allowing children to get their hands dirty unearthing mock dinosaur fossils.
