Rediscover Jules Dassin’s Crime Thriller ‘Rafifi’

Picture of Culture Trip
Updated: 2 May 2016
The Museum of Fine Arts Houston presents a special screening of Jules Dassin’s crime thriller Rafifi as part of their Restorations & Revivals film series. This highly acclaimed 1955 heist film follows Tony – a jewel thief recently out of prison – who isn’t eager to get back in the game but takes a job when he discovers his girlfriend is now the lover of a local gangster. What should be an easy job turns into a full-on heist with lasting consequences. Dassin traveled to France to direct the film after being blacklisted in Hollywood due to ties with the Communist Party. The black-and-white film is presented in French with English subtitles.
