The name says it all! Austin’s Kite Festival is an annual event held in the expansive Zilker Park just south of downtown. The first Kite Festival was held in 1929 and continues to mark the beginning of Spring in Austin every year with thousands of kites filling the sky. From its inception, the festival’s goal has been to inspire creativity in children. The event hosts homemade kite competitions including Smallest Kite, Largest Kite, Most Unusual Kite, and Youngest and Oldest Kite Fliers. If you don’t have a kite to fly, it’s a spectacular event to sit back and watch. You can also stop by some of the vendor booths offering samplings from some of Austin’s favorite restaurants.
