Austin’s food scene is unrivaled in Texas and it is home to a huge number of amazing pizza shops, trucks, and restaurants. In fact, there are so many locally owned and unique pizza places in Austin that it can be a bit overwhelming. To help you out, here’s our guide to 10 Austin pizza spots you simply must try.

1. Home Slice Pizza

Home Slice is a New York-style pizza shop offering homemade, hand-tossed pizza. Home Slice offers a wide variety of different types of pizzas as well as subs, calzones, and a wine and beer bar. All of their ‘tried and true’ pizzas are worth ordering – their margherita is especially delicious. Home Slice also has a location called More Home Slice right across the street that exclusively offers pizza by the slice for take-out.

East Side Pies

East Side Pies is a mini-chain in Austin that serves up thin crust and Chicago style pizza. It is best known for its huge selection of toppings. They offer 10 different types of sauces, including chimichurri and tomatillo, and a wide variety of locally sourced vegetables like kalamata olives and habanero peppers. They also notably offer a 10-inch gluten free crust, along with regular 14- and 18-inch pies. East Side Pies’s pizzas are original and very tasty, and their garlic knots and pizza rolls are definitely worth a try as well.

2. Pinthouse Pizza

Pinthouse Pizza is a British-inspired pub and pizza restaurant located in North Austin. Pinthouse is open, loud, and a great deal of fun, with seat-yourself service and huge tables that seat at least 20 people. Pinthouse’s pizza and food are all made in-house by hand using locally sourced and organic ingredients. Their pizzas range from simple, like the Pepperoni & Basil, to elaborate, like the Armadillo (artisan sausage, poblano peppers, ricotta, and cilantro). Pinthouse also brews many of the beers on their 40+ tap list in house, with an emphasis on hops and IPAs.

3. Conans Pizza

Conans Pizza serves deep pan pizza that will satisfy vegetarians and vegans too. Their everything pizza, ‘The Savage,’ is a fan favorite. Conans is family run and locally owned, and they use fresh produce and local ingredients in their food. While the atmosphere is a bit dark and grungy, Conans’ 40 years in business and their pizzas truly speak for themselves.

4. Italic

For a more upscale pizza experience, try Italic in downtown Austin. Italic is an Italian restaurant set in a modern open space that serves pasta and wood-fired pizza. While Italic does not offer a huge selection of pizzas each one is handmade, baked in a wood-fired oven, and will leave you feeling very satisfied. Italic also offers a list of over 100 wines that are all sourced directly from Italy, so you’ll find a perfect pairing for your pizza.

40 North is a wood fired Neapolitan pizza trailer located on South 1st Street. 40 North makes fresh personal pizzas that you can enjoy at the tented picnic area right by the food truck. The pizzas, though small, are original and delicious. The Hot Honey is unique and very tasty, featuring a homemade honey sauce and hot coppa, which is a specially cured pork.

6. Pizzeria Vetri

Pizzeria Vetri offers a list of Neapolitan pizzas, salads, and a good-sized list of beers and wines. The pizzas come in two sizes: a typical 12-inch personal pizza and one that is a full meter long, which is perfect for sharing. Pizzeria Vetri’s dinner pizzas are fresh tasting and delicious, and they also offer a fabulous Nutella dessert pizza with marshmallows, which is just as good as it sounds.

7. Salvation Pizza

Salvation Pizza is a pizza spot in North Austin serving up New Haven-style pizzas, calzones, and sandwiches, plus beer and wine. Salvation Pizza is a large, homey space, with a dog friendly patio. Salvation Pizza has a ‘top 10’ list of pizzas and a ‘create your own pizza’ menu. In typical New Haven style, they offer many white pies, including a white clam pizza that will remind you of the Northeast. Salvation Pizza’s menu and atmosphere make for great comfort food. They also recently opened a location on Rainey Street.

8. Via 313

Food Truck, Italian, American

Via 313 is a Detroit-inspired food trailer. It is known for its square shaped Detroit style pizzas, baked on metal trays that are inspired by automotive assembly lines. “The Cadillac” is a great choice, with Gorgonzola cheese, fig preserves, prosciutto, and Parmesan with a balsamic glaze.

9. Bufalina Pizza

Bufalina Pizza is a pizza restaurant in East Austin offering handcrafted Neapolitan pizzas as well as beer and wine. Another mod and upscale spot, Bufalina’s pizzas are made with artisanal ingredients in a wood-fired stove. Bufalina’s space is especially cool, with a wine bar, wooden tables, and an open view of the wood-fired stove. The Fresca (prosciutto, picante, arugula, lemon, and mozzarella) and the Calabrese (tomato, mozzarella, salami, Serrano, basil) are customer favorites.
