Pittsburghers love pizza, and often visitors find themselves in heated but passionate discussions about the right thickness, amount of tomato sauce, and the best toppings. If you ask locals for recommendations on the best pizza spots, chances are their responses will be long, which only proves their love for an amazing slice. Here are some of Steelers City’s best pizza spots.

1. Mineo's Pizza House

Pizzeria, Italian

John Mineo came to America in 1955 from a small town in Sicily. He aspired to make pizza and found himself on Murray Avenue in the heart of Squirrel Hill in 1958. The rest is history—family history, that is, which spans three generations. Now celebrating its 60th year, Mineo’s is a local favorite and something of a legend in the area. The pies are so popular that fans can have them delivered overnight via FedEx to any U.S. city.

2. Aiello's Pizza

Pizzeria, Italian, American

In 1967, Giueseppe “Joe” Aiello set sail to America from Sicily with only $13 in his pocket. After years of kneading dough, he decided to open his own pizza shop on Murray Avenue. Having now been in business for more than 30 years, Aiello’s Pizza in the East End is a local favorite for traditional Italian-American pizza. Like its competitor Mineo’s Pizza House, Aiello’s has also garnered a loyal following for the friendly service and spicy sauce. Some fan favorites include Giuseppe’s Margherita and homemade sausage pizza.

3. Napoli Pizzeria

Pizzeria, American, Italian

Napoli Pizzeria has been at Murray Avenue for more than 25 years. Their best seller is a classic pepperoni, but they also offer a variety of other favorites, ranging from white pizza, with a blend of olive oil, garlic, and Italian seasoning, to pasta dishes such as rigatoni. The restaurant even carries more than 30 different brands of beer.

5. Spak Bros Pizza

Pizzeria, Italian

Spak Bros is a local favorite that attracts a younger crowd with its healthy options. The pizzeria uses unbleached and unbromated flour, and they refrain from using refined sugar in the crust or sauce. Dive into the classics, make your own pizza, or go for a specialty pizza, such as the White Pizza or the Dealer’s Choice, which changes daily; just ask for the current pie. A range of other options, such as hoagies, wings, and salads are also available, as well as interesting add-ons, such as vegan cheese and veggie sausage.

6. Slice on Broadway

Pizzeria, Italian, American

Slice on Broadway has multiple locations throughout Pittsburgh, and their mission is to create the “best darn pizza, sandwiches and salads money can buy.” There’s nothing more New York than a thin crust pizza that takes up an entire table, which is what you’ll get when your order the “ginormous” size. This pizza sets them apart from many of the pizzerias in Pittsburgh, so if you’re on the lookout for a good New York style pizza, Slice on Broadway is the place to go.
