Philadelphia is a great city for unique roasters and specialty drinks. Read ahead for our guide to the best coffee shops in various neighborhoods of the city.

Green Street Coffee Roasters

Selling their own brand of coffee, Green Street is a cozy, but thriving shop at the corner of 11th and Spruce. You can grab their single-origin beans from local shops around town, but the shop, with its charming red painted front and unique, locally made tables is a perfect place to unwind. Drinks here are well priced and crafted, and outdoor seating on warm days is perfect at this neighborhood outlet. They’ve also got great latte art.

Ultimo Coffee

The knowledgeable baristas at Ultimo help to make this coffee shop a standout. Ultimo sells Counter Culture coffee and even hosts classes upstairs. They serve blends from Ethiopia, Columbia (featured drip and espresso) and Kenya with great pastries from Dottie’s Donuts, Four World and Metropolitan Bakery. All single-origin options are based on a seasonal menu. The nice rustic decor is calming and is great for coffee dates or doing work.

Shot Tower Coffee

The airy neighborhood hangout is a great place to relax and get work done at their long community table. The rustic decor helps keep the place lively. They brew delicious coffee from fresh Counter Culture beans, and they also have a great tea list. The place is somewhat small, but they also have outdoor seating on the tree-lined street.

Elixr Coffee

There’s a reason why the top restaurants around town love Elixr Coffee and why industry pros go here themselves. The group at Elixr Coffee roasts high quality, single-origin beans with creative techniques and brews them by hand in-store. The small, wooden cafe is a good place to work or take in their great rotation mural or installation series.

The roasters of Fishtown’s ReAnimator Coffee have plenty of accolades under their belts. With their Probat roaster and new light, open industrial-chic coffee shop, ReAnimator is a highly rated coffee spot in the city. Check out their fine list of lattes and espressos. The kind staff make this an environment worthy of your attention, and they set the bar high in the coffee world.

Rival Bros Coffee Roasters

The sleek, black-accented decor of Rival Bros adds to the cultured and knowledgeable coffee station. Offering traditional drip coffee, a Chemex bar and varieties of espresso, Rival Bros roasts their beans at their roasters in Frankford daily. One of their highlights is their crafted menu of toasts and sandwiches prepared in-house for patrons. The small shop is great for taking advantage of their free wifi or chatting.

The relatively new Menagerie Coffee offers beans from Dogwood Coffee Co., a small roaster from Minneapolis that you won’t see at other local coffee shops in the area. Cozy up in this welcoming, bright space with calming colors. Try one of their delicious, smooth cold brews or iced lattes. Luckily, you can order Cortados and a breakfast sandwich with some sweet maple ham for a nice pick-me-up.

The large white windows looking out onto the garden in the back give it a serene, calming feeling. There are also plenty of outlets and free wifi for doing work. While they have numerous magazines and games, the coffee spot also showcases a gallery of pieces by local artists.
