New York is a large city with endless places to eat and drink. Luckily, there are a ton of people out there creating apps to help you find only the best places. Here are the 10 best food apps out there right now.

ChefsFeed

The lively, cool design of this app will instantly catch your attention. Even better, ChefsFeed actually delivers reliable recommendations from chefs. You can search for highly recommended dishes, restaurants or chefs. And as you approach a recommended restaurant it tells you that you’re nearby and what to order at each place. There are also curated lists of recommendations such as ‘best burgers,’ ‘fall in NYC,’ and ‘best ramen.’ You can also save dishes to remind yourself for later. This is perfect for the foodie that cares more about individual dishes than convenience.

Five Dollar Feast

A simple app that zeros in on your location and offers cheap eats nearby in list or map form. Each listing on Five Dollar Feast also offers a short blurb about the food, features of the restaurant and what’s especially tasty there. A great app if you want to save a few bucks and still find great food.

DINE

DINE by Tasting Table has a sleek design and an easy-to-use search capability: by neighborhood, cuisine, or features. You can also create your own list of restaurants or search through lists created by the apps designers that are thematic (such as best brunches, or under the radar) and updated weekly. There’s also a feed with updates from the restaurant world, new restaurants, reviews, and closings. You can swipe through the feed (Tinder style) and read more or add the restaurants to your list.

Truck Food

Another simple app with one goal – help you find the food trucks on a day-to-day basis. You can do a general search, look for a specific food truck or search by cuisine. You can also add trucks to your favorites. The one downside to TruckFood is that it does not appear to be updated regularly and there are some trucks missing altogether, but it’s a start.

The Scoop

This is an app created by the New York Times and has an extensive alphabetical list of restaurants, bars, coffee shops, theater and lots more all curated by the experts at the NYT. The app is low tech, with very little searching capability, but you can look on the map to find places nearby. All listings on The Scoop have a short review from the writers.

Happy Hour Monster

Looking for a happy hour? This app is the answer to your prayers. Happy Hour Monster finds happy hours nearby, gives specific times and what specials they are offering. You can also search for places with food specials and oyster specials. This app is perfect for tracking down some cheap boozy fun.

LiveDish

LiveDish is like Instagram just for food pics. Follow your friends or favorite chefs to see what they’re eating and what they think of it. Then you can take and upload your own pictures of food, and write reviews to share your thoughts. They also have a discover feature to find new places and post about them.

Wifi and Coffee

This app is extremely straightforward: it has a list of coffee shops that have wifi. You can also view them in map form to find places nearby. No fuss no muss, just coffee shops with wifi to satisfy your need to sit, drink coffee, and surf the internet in public. Wifi and Coffee also provides basic info about the place like, ‘comfy,’ ‘cash only,’ and ‘bright.’ Good job.

Salt

Salt is perfect for you if you can never remember the names of places you’ve been. You can import past places from Instagram and even save new places right to the app by putting ‘@savetosalt’ in your post. It allows you track new places you want to check out, add notes and mark when you’ve been there. And they’ll send you a personalized video (really) for signing up.
