Tucked away on a small corner off the Montrose L stop in East Williamsburg is Makara Studio, a healing space that offers affordable yoga classes and workshops to the community. Makara Studio was started by Jonathan Borin and Hannah Harpole, who connected while visiting India
. They later reconnected in Brooklyn and the rest is history. Besides their affordable classes, community reiki and retreats, they also have an on-site mini boutique where items by local artists are sold. A portion of sales from each product goes to help support The Odanadi Garden Project, an orphanage garden that co-founder Hannah Harpole helped to create. Makara also offers a community acupuncture practice where patients are treated twice a week on a sliding scale, so it’s accessible to anyone and everyone.
