There’s an Immersive Harry Potter Festival Coming to NYC Next Month

Since the global phenomena’s final film release in 2011, there’s been a hippogriff-sized hole in the hearts of many. Well, hang on to your sorting hats, New Yorkers: Harry Potter and his wizarding world will return, albeit briefly, to New York City next month for a magical adults-only experience.

Hardcore Potterheads will know this year marks the 20th anniversary of the U.S. release of the book that started it all, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. In between birthday bashes at the upcoming Harry Potter exhibit and the city’s strangely satisfying Harry Potter-themed Italian restaurants (yes, you read that right), you’ll want to relive the entire Harry Potter experience. Luckily for you, one roaming festival which has previously brought magic to Texas and Pennsylvania will arrive at Irving Plaza on February 3. Pack your bags: you are hereby accepted to Wizard U.

Brought to you by the founders of PotterCon, Wizard U. is a cross between the popular convention and Universal Studios’ Wizarding World of Harry Potter. However, you can think of it as the Hogwarts education you never received. Expect a welcome address from the Heads before being schooled in Defense Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, Muggle Studies, and more magical Harry Potter-themed subjects.

When your studies start to feel too rigorous, boozy Butterbeer and specialty themed cocktails are the perfect potions to unwind you. Looking for something even more immersive? Try having your fortune told at Divination, playing wizards’ chess, or shopping for your own house scarf. Be sure not to miss the day’s main events, though, which include Dueling Finals and a QuadWizard Tournament, and whatever you do, don’t accept any dragon eggs from hooded strangers.
