Dedicated to promoting diversity in the dance world, the Dance Theater of Harlem has been innovating New York City’s art scene for more than 40 years. Comprising a racially-diverse performing ensemble, arts education center, and an international community outreach program, this self-described “multi-cultural dance institution” is breaking boundaries and setting standards in the performing arts world — all while maintaining a perfect pointe technique! This month marks the company’s triumphant return to City Center with Power. On Pointe., a ballet showcase highlighting the contributions of female choreographers. The program features New York premieres from Dianne McIntyre and Elena Kunikova, as well as a return of Helen Pickett’s fan-favorited When Love. Bringing its value of entertaining education — and its A-game — to the show’s four-day run, the company also offers a post-show discussion as well as a family-friendly ‘Meet the Ballerina’ event. Tickets are available for purchase here.
