Seven NYC Cocktail Bars Made the 2017 “World’s 50 Best Bars” List

The 2017 edition of the “World’s 50 Best Bars” list was revealed in a ceremony last night in London, and several NYC bars landed in top spots on the list.

The list of the World’s 50 Best Bars is, newly this year, run by the same group behind the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. So perhaps it’s no surprise that the highest-ranking NYC bar this year, at number three on the list, is The NoMad, from the same team as Eleven Madison Park, which took the very top spot in the restaurants list this year. The Dead Rabbit, which was last year’s best bar, dropped to number five this year.

The top two spots on the list both went to London bars: the American Bar at The Savoy; and Dandelyan, which won best bar at Tales of the Cocktail this year.

Other NYC bars in the Top 50 were Attaboy, at number eight; Dante, at number 16; BlackTail, at number 32; Employees Only, at number 37; and Mace, at number 42. Despite the list’s name, the organization actually ranks 100 bars, and four more NYC bars—PDT, Death & Co, Angel’s Share, and Bar Goto—made the back 50 list. BlackTail, from the same team as The Dead Rabbit, was also named Best New Opening, a new category in 2017.

As with any list, we’d suggest taking these rankings with a grain of salt. Several of our most beloved NYC cocktail spots didn’t make the list, and we’d argue that many of those bars could go up against any of the ones on here. But this list definitely provides a good starting point.
