It’s tough trying to get a handle on how to organize all your stuff. It’s even more difficult when you live in a cramped Manhattan studio apartment. Starting October 9 until November 11, New Yorkers can apply for IKEA’s “Home Tour Squad” to come in and work a little room magic in their space for free.
The IKEA Home Tour began in 2014, and since then their makeover videos have reached almost 71 million viewers. Even if you don’t end up as the lucky urbanite to get a small apartment transformation, there’s plenty to be learned from their video series. Most New Yorkers have space issues; it’s just a fact of living in the concrete jungle, but most of us have no idea how to combat the build up of “stuff.” For some, like this couple in the video below, changing up your furniture can really improve your quality of life. Using multi-functional furniture, like a kitchen island as both a desk and food prep area, can be a game-changer in small spaces.
The “Artistic Living Room Makeover” below shows how shared locations in the home, like the living area, can actually be multi-functional, flexible spaces that accommodate differences in personality and lifestyle. Antonio and Oak needed a life/work area, so their revamp included a sit/stand workstation, a centered sofa, and a small dining area.
According to their release, IKEA’s Home Tour Squad will “help evaluate room needs and challenges, develop a plan, and work together with participants to implement smart solutions.” So whether you want to give fate a try and apply, or just want to find home inspirations from another’s good fortune, check out their home tour videos, tips, and before & after transformations here.
