Few artists have made a cultural impact as grand as Frida Kahlo’s. Soon, art-lovers, culture enthusiasts, and foodies can communally rejoice at Kahlo: a Chelsea-based, Frida-inspired tapas restaurant set to open in September 2017.
One of history’s most fascinating characters, Frida Kahlo remains beloved for her one-of-a-kind oeuvre, fierce individuality, and enviable style. Having developed a sincere appreciation for the Mexican painter, a love of Mexican culture and a taste for the food, husband-and-wife duo Paula and Fernando Lopez conceived of a Frida Kahlo-inspired restaurant in New York City.
A homage to Frida’s inspirational albeit complex life and legacy, the Kahlo experience will be a subtle nod to La Casa Azul (the artist’s childhood home-turned-Frida Kahlo museum), Frida’s recognizable fashion sense, and her favorite foods. The menu will offer the likes of mezcal-based cocktails and organic beers and wines alongside handmade empanadas and basil guacamole with corn tortillas.
Kahlo is due to open at 525 West 29th Street in Manhattan’s gallery district this autumn.
