Patricia Yankee, aka Pattie Yankee, is known throughout the fashion industry for her ability to match polish shades to the tiniest detail in a designer’s collection. Having launched a nail polish line of her own in 2015, and busy with her celebrity clients like Katy Perry, Allison Williams, Selena Gomez, and the Kardashians, the New York manicurist still has time to do your nails. So, where can you find her? At the Soho location of a New York institution, the kooky chic pharmacy, Ricky’s.

Says Yankee, who counts among her friends lifestyle guru Rachel Ray, “natural nail care is making a comeback.” In other words, expect to see a drop in gel manicures (because of the havoc they wreck on your nails) and an increase in nail polishes like Patricia Yankee’s, which are being touted as having a “Five-Free Formula.”

According to Allure, the five-free formula has “eliminated the use of known carcinogens (formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate, toluene, formaldehyde resin, and camphor).” Additionally, Yankee’s polish is cruelty-free, vegan, while still being chip-resistant.

As for what’s trending right now, Yankee says that the transfer foil technique (that looks like shattered glass) is really hot. “It was used in the 80s,” she says, and now it’s popular again. In fact, Yankee used it on Katy Perry for the cover of her album Prism.

Another fun trend that Yankee points out is stick-on nails with custom nail art, “that you can wear like jewellery, to accessorize your outfit.” Yankee sells these nails at Ricky’s straight off the runway, as the days of hand-painting the model’s digits have gone the way of the dodo. Rather than toss the used-once runway nails, Yankee offers them for sale at Ricky’s, so her detailed custom nail art can get worn again, not by models, but by normals.
