Updated: 21 December 2016
Manhattan-born Stan Lee is a revered comic book writer, editor, and media producer, as well as the former chairman of Marvel Comics. He got his start as an office assistant at Timely Comics upon finishing high school, and has since invented an entire superhero universe filled with complex, crime-fighting characters. Mr. Lee’s tremendous success has guided the expansion of Timely Comics from a small publishing house to a large, multi-media corporation (now Marvel). We explore Stan Lee’s cinematic legacy in ten films.

Deadpool (2016)

One of Hollywood‘s most unorthodox superheroes, Deadpool follows the story of former Special Forces operative-turned-mercenary, Wade Wilson. Upon being diagnosed with cancer, he leaves his fiancé behind to undergo a rogue medical experiment. Tortured and disfigured by evil scientist Ajax, Wilson transforms into Deadpool: a mutant with accelerated healing powers and a twisted sense of humor. After he escapes from Ajax’s captivity, Deadpool confronts the scientist who holds his fiancé hostage with the help of mutant allies, Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead.

Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

While Tony Stark begins a peacekeeping program, Ultron, a technological terror, begins to plot human extinction. Iron Man teams up with Thor, the Incredible Hulk, and the rest of the Avengers to battle Ultron and two of his powerful sidekicks, Pietro and Wanda Maximoff. The partnering of these three evil mutants complicates their mission, but the Avengers are determined to save mankind.

Thor: The Dark World (2013)

The Aether is the most powerful weapon created by an evil race called the Dark Elves. Since the gods of Asgard won the last war against the Dark Elves in ancient times, the Aether was buried in a secret location. But centuries later, Jane Foster discovers the Aether only to become its host. Thor travels to Earth to rescue Foster from being captured by Dark Elf Malekith while trying to stop Malekith from stealing the weapon and using it to destroy the Nine Realms – including Earth.

Iron Man 3 (2013)

Tony Stark relies on the superpower suits that he invented, and it’s his Iron Man persona that saves New York City from being destroyed by a malevolent enemy known as the Mandarin. Mandarin endangers world peace, but things get personal when he threatens Stark’s relationship with his personal assistant, Pepper. Stark must persist in developing high-tech weapons to fight Mandarin and protect the innocent human race as well as the people he loves.

X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)

Upon waking for the first time in thousands of years, Apocalypse makes a plan to wipe out mankind and create a new world order under his reign. Recruiting a team of mutants, led by the heartless Magneto, Apocalypse amasses the powers of all evil figures in the world, becoming increasingly invincible to destruction. In this time of need, Professor X, together with Raven, leads a team of young X-Men to stand against Apocalypse and save the human race.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

Audacious space adventurer Peter Quill finds himself involved in a cosmic conflict after he steals an orb coveted by the powerful villain, Ronan. As Quill unveils the secret of the orb and discovers Ronan’s despicable plot, he is determined to save the universe and confront Ronan. Coincidentally, he encounters four disparate and eccentric superheroes: Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Gamora, and Drax the Destroyer. Quill then teams up with them to demolish Ronan’s atrocious proposition.

Ant-Man (2015)

A diabolical tech genius, Cross is on the verge of stealing Dr. Hank Pym’s shrink-suit technology, which can reduce a human to the size of an ant and grant unbelievable superhuman powers – including the ability to control an army of ants. Scott Lang, a master thief recently released from prison, is recruited by Dr. Pym to avert this threat of world domination. Trained by Dr. Pym, Lang wears the suit and becomes Ant-Man to stop Cross from invading the world.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

Bitten by a rare spider, Peter Parker embraces his newly gifted superhuman strength to fight crime in New York City. Parker, who becomes Spider-Man, finds himself facing Electro, who is far more powerful than he is. As Parker’s greatest battle is about to begin, he discovers that all of his enemies have connections with Oscorp.

The Incredible Hulk 2 (2008)

Scientist Bruce Banner turns into the Hulk due to exposure to gamma radiation, which contaminated his cells. While he desperately searches for a cure, he is hunted by a team of U.S. Military officials, led by his nemesis (and his girlfriend’s father), General Thunderbolt Ross. He is forced to flee the country and terminate all contact with his girlfriend, Betty Ross. But Banner cannot escape his fate; he comes to a face-to-face battle with General Ross’s latest military weapon: the Abomination.

Fantastic Four (2015)

Five scientists – Reed, Sue, Johnny, Victor, and Ben – develop a Quantum Gate, a teleport machine used to transport humans to an alternate universe. Curiosity arises amongst the group, and they embark on an unsanctioned voyage to a parallel dimension: Planet Zero. During their covert mission, they gain superhuman abilities after an explosion alters their physical form on a molecular-genetic level. Victor becomes a villain, Doctor Doom, and plans to destroy Earth. Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben unite as the Fantastic Four and use their newfound powers to fight their friend.
