Even if you’ve never been to NYC, you’ve probably seen it on TV, and you probably have a few places you’d recognize. From old-time favorites like Friends to newcomers like Broad City, New York will always be a place where good TV is made. And if you’re a fan of any NYC-based shows, you’ll probably want to check out some of the spots when you’re here. And while you could easily spend an entire NYC trip following in the footsteps of your favorite TV stars, here are some of the spots worth visiting.

McGee’s Pub

In How I Met Your Mother, the crew is often at McGee’s Pub in Midtown, Manhattan, but you might not know it. In the show, it’s called MacLaren’s, and it’s the characters’ favorite bar. It’s everything the show makes it out to be – a casual pub where you can have a beer with your friends – and you can order off their special How I Met Your Mother food and drinks menu.

The Box

If you’re a fan of Gossip Girl, you know that Chuck and Blair have had a long history that’s taken place all over New York City and beyond, and it all started at The Box. The Box is not a place to go for a casual evening; it’s a place where you’ll have one of the most memorable nights of your life. It’s nearly impossible to get into, but if you have a chance to go, take it. It’s where Chuck and Blair have their first hook up, and it’s famously a place where crazy things are not uncommon.

The Back Room

Broad City has taken the world by storm, and if you live in NYC, you’ll be distracted by all the spots you recognize. Abbi and Alana spend their days out and about in all parts of the city, and one of the bars they hit is The Back Room. The Back Room is one of the few bars in New York City that operated during Prohibition, and now it’s known for its secret entrance and for serving cocktails in teacups. It’s also the spot where Abbi transforms into ‘Val,’ her super sexy 1920’s alter ego.

Hotel Delmano

The perfect spot for cocktails and oysters in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Hotel Delmano will transport you back to the 1920s. It’s also one of the bars in Aziz Ansari’s comedy series, Master of None, and it’s a spot that leads to a wild night. All the places Aziz visits in Master of None are trendy and at the top of the NYC food scene, so you can never go wrong by following in his footsteps.

Monkey Bar

Sex and the City ran for six seasons, so naturally there are tons of spots in the city you’ll recognize from the show. You can even go on Sex and the City tours where you’ll see Carrie’s apartment plus all of their favorite spots. And if you’re looking to follow in the footsteps of Carrie and Big, head to Monkey Bar at the Hotel Elysée. It’s dark, swanky, and sexy, and it’s a spot where Carrie and Big get all dressed up and talk about the romance and glamour of previous eras.

Monkey Bar, 60 E 54th St, New York, NY, USA, +1 212 288 1010
