Right on campus at the University of Missouri Kansas City, Pizza 51 is an old gas station that was converted into a pizza place and serves some of the best pizza in town. Pizza 51 serves pizza with a thin and crispy crust. The pizza restaurant has unique toppings which can be added to your pizza of choice, such as artichoke hearts, cream cheese, and ricotta cheese. In addition to pizza, Pizza 51 serves sandwiches, wraps, breadsticks, and salads.

2. Sarpino's

Sarpino’s Pizzeria is a casual Italian establishment serving pizza slices over the counter made with a unique sauce. Their sauce is made from a secret recipe combining various Italian herbs and spices. The pizzeria is known for its creative pizza options like their Grecian gyros pizza, Alfredo shrimp pizza, and macaroni and cheese pizza. Sarpino’s serves one of their dips with every pizza, and has unique options like jalapeño ranch dressing, tzatziki sauce, and strawberry sauce. In addition to pizza, Sarpino’s serves calzones, sandwiches, salads, pastas, wings, and desserts.

Johnny Jo’s Pizzeria is a pizza place on 47th street that serves pizza baked in a stone oven. Johnny Jo’s is known for their New York style pizza that has sauce made with San Marzano tomatoes and a slightly thicker, doughier crust than is the usual. Johnny Jo’s serves pizza by the slice or by the pie, and has a variety of options like ‘the meathead’ pizza and ‘the Johnny Jo Marco Polo’ pizza. In addition to pizza, Johnny Jo’s serves garlic knots and a variety of stromboli.

Grinders Pizzeria is an American style pizza place that serves thin crust pizza. In addition to pizza, Grinders serves homemade nachos, burgers, sandwiches and wraps, hot wings so spicy that they’re called ‘death wings,’ soups, tater tots, and fried mushrooms. Grinders serves unique pizza flavors such as their famous chili bomb, made with chili cheese and tater tots, and their ‘Bengal tiger’ pizza with tandoori chicken and crab meat. Grinders has been featured on the Food Network for their pizza, but is also known for their rotating selection of unique beers.

Cupini’s

Cupini’s is an Italian deli that is known for its pastas but also makes amazing pizzas, made with homemade dough. In addition to pizzas, Cupini’s serves calzones, salads, paninis, entrees like chicken parmesan, and a variety of appetizers. Cupini’s makes unique pastas like sweet pea ravioli and sausage and fennel ravioli. For dessert, Cupini’s serves Italian favorites like cannolis, tiramisu, zuccotto, Italian white cream cake, and white chocolate mousse. Cupini’s is another very popular Kansas City haunt that has been featured on the Food Network.
