If you ever find yourself with nothing to do on a Saturday night (or even any other day of the week), don’t forget about Boston’s awesome comedy clubs. There are quite a few venues here in the city that feature local and national comics and offer a variety of shows from improv and comedic theater to classic stand-up comedy. Here are six you should check out right now.

Improv Asylum

Improv Asylum began in 1997 when the three founders decided to take their improv careers from the downstairs back room of a bar to their prime location on Hanover Street in the North End. Their comedy theater specializes in improvisation and sketch comedy, and you can catch a show six nights a week. They also offer corporate training and shows plus a student training center.

Laugh Boston

Laugh Boston is actually the sister club of Improv Asylum, which is probably why it’s been so successful. You can see their weekly show ‘Boston Accents,’ as well as other acts added to fill the rest of the week. You can also book special events here, and tickets to a regular show usually run between $25 and $35. And if you’ve ever worried about sitting up front at a comedy show, worry no more – Laugh Boston is a ‘heckle-free’ zone for both comics and the audience.

Four-Handed Illusions

Branded as ‘an intimate evening of laughs and wonder,’ Four-Handed Illusions is a comedy experience like no other. You’ll be in a crowd of only 50 people, and cocktail dress is required. It’s a combination of magic and comedy of which guests have written rave reviews. Buy tickets early, as they are only available online, and there are only two shows each month.

The Comedy Studio

The Comedy Studio is located on Massachusetts Ave in Harvard Square and has always operated under the mission to add a new twist to comedy. This casual spot is where you can catch new comedians trying to break into the industry, as well as veterans trying out new routines. You can catch a show six days a week, and tickets are never more than $15.

ImprovBoston has been operating for over 30 years, and they’ve been honored with ‘Best of Boston’ titles on numerous occasions. They largely focus on their school and workshops and take pride in having alumni go on to appear on major shows such as America’s Got Talent, Last Comic Standing, and The Daily Show. If you’re looking for a show, you have plenty of options as they perform multiple times nearly every night.
