The Best Hotels With a Pool in Maine, USA

With thousands of miles of coastline, not to mention all the fresh seafood you could wish for (Maine accounts for some 90 percent of the nation’s lobster supply), this quietly overachieving state offers a beach getaway that’s a break from the norm. However, when the sand, saltwater and saline breeze of the beach proves too much, these hotels with pools will be your summer saviors.

1. Cape Arundel Inn and Resort

If you like your days punctuated with activities, then this oceanfront southern Maine retreat should be your next port of call. Start the day with a yoga class on the lawn (offered seasonally), and swim a couple of dozen laps in the heated outdoor pool between breakfast and lunch. Round off the day with a leisurely cycle around the grand mansions of the Cape Arundel Summer Colony Historic District on one of the inn’s bikes.

2. Inn by the Sea

When you’ve exhausted beachcombing, swimming in the ocean and rockpool peeping at the sweeping lick of sand that is Crescent Beach, take the private boardwalk back through the state park, and collapse at the Inn by the Sea’s pool. Once you’ve washed away the day’s salt back in your suite, make a beeline for the deck at the resort restaurant Sea Glass, and order a crisp glass of house-made cider.

3. Stage Neck Inn

A seaside getaway in one of Maine’s oldest towns might just be the perfect tonic for urbanites wearied by concrete jungles. Pull up a chair at Stage Neck Inn’s rather substantial outdoor pool overlooking York Harbor, and devour some ice cream. Mellow out amid the bubbles of the property’s indoor hot tub. Watch the sun sink below the horizon from one of the inn’s Adirondack chairs, perched right next to the water’s edge.

5. Hidden Pond

“Eat, sleep, swim, repeat” should be the mantra at this Kennebunkport retreat. Although the soft white sand of Goose Rocks Beach beckons from just a mile down the road, the two heated pools at Hidden Pond are also pretty enticing. Families should visit the inclusive Lodge Pool, while those seeking a spot of tranquility should venture down to the adults-only Serenity Pool.

6. Cliff House Maine

The indecisive vacationer might find themselves overwhelmed at this luxury clifftop retreat – there are three different saltwater pools (and three saltwater hot tubs) to choose from at Cliff House, all featuring unobstructed ocean views. The fourth-floor indoor pool is, of course, your go-to come winter, while you can’t go past the infinity Cove Pool with its cabanas and dedicated bar and grill come summer.

7. Yachtsman Hotel and Marina Club

There’s something of a sophisticated Club Tropicana vibe at the Yachtsman Hotel and Marina Club. The hotel’s swimming pool sits on a custom-made barge docked in the Kennebunk River. Lie back on the striped, sunny-yellow bean-bag chairs, pop a canned wine spritz and plaster the image all over Instagram to taunt your nearest and dearest. This funky former motor lodge is the ideal summer getaway for couples.

8. The Nonantum Resort

At this family-friendly Kennebunkport resort, picture-postcard views are basically part of the package. Even when your toes are in the hotel’s pool, you’ll still be swooning over the vistas: tiny sailboats bobbing up and down in the Kennebunk River, the thickly wooded riverbank opposite serving as a backdrop. When a hot spell hits, cool off with a dip and an ice-cold sangria from the pool bar and grill.
