Chicago’s Ukrainian Village is so much more than beautiful homes and fascinating people. This neighborhood is home to a cavalcade of unique bars that give patrons everything from welcoming atmospheres and friendly bartenders to affordable drink specials and craft cocktails. While the bar selection in Chicago is more than plentiful, you can find bro bars, soccer saloons, hipster hubs and dive drinkeries all within this small, ten by ten block neighborhood.

1. Old Oak Tap

Bar, American

Right off of Chicago Avenue, Old Oak Tap is filled with rustic style. From the stone fireplace to the light fixtures that belong in a European cathedral, you’ll feel elegant enough to order something from their extensive beer and wine list with confidence and grace, and after that, peruse a menu with everything from bar food to afternoon appetizers. There will be no need to leave the comfortable couches and other plush seating options, and the high ceilings give you enough space to stretch out and relax in true comfort. Be sure to stop by on a summer day to enjoy their huge outdoor patio and enjoy your drinks while basking in the sun.

2. Fatpour Tap Works

Bar, Restaurant, American, Pub Grub

Fatpour’s 200+ beer list has everything under the sun! Whether you are looking to take in a Blackhawks playoff win with like minded sports fans or enjoy the company of friends in a spacious bar, this two-level establishment will provide you with 50 beers on tap and a relaxing atmosphere. If you want to take in an out-of-market NFL game, Fatpour has upwards of 20 televisions along with NFL Sunday Ticket, so you can watch the Jacksonville Jaguars take on the Tennessee Titans without getting in anyone’s way.

3. The Beetle

Bar, Restaurant, American, Pub Grub

The Beetle has a drink selection, friendly staff and fun former-jewelry store decor that makes it an absolute must for this list. As a neighborhood hub and a citywide secret, you can take in a sports game, enjoy a trivia night or have a casual drink. Don’t forget to stop in for brunch so you can enjoy one of the spiciest Bloody Marys in the city.

6. Archie’s

Archie’s

After just a few visits to Archie’s, the bartenders will welcome you with free cheese balls and affordable beers. You can even bring your dog into this neighborhood watering hole. The ultra-neighborhood feel here will have you taking part in everything from friendly barbecues on the sidewalk to lively discussions about current affairs.

7. Cleo’s

Bar, Pub Grub, American

Love soccer? Cleo’s is the bar for you. Not only will you be able to revel in the glory of a Chicago Fire victory in one of their official bars, you’ll also be able to take in an international game no matter what time zone you’re in. Typical bar snacks are available, along with a beer list that will make you long for a trip across the pond, and we all know that no soccer bar is complete without a game of mini soccer — yes, there is a foosball table!

8. Bar DeVille

Bar, Pub Grub

If you want to drink in a bar modeled after your grandparents’ living room, Bar DeVille will not disappoint. With a pool table, a photo booth and one of the best free stand-up comedy shows in the city in the back room, you’ll have a great night at a decent price.
