If you sway more to the adventurous side, then guess what! This little hot love shack perched at the base of Kilauea, in Kalapana, Hawaii could be yours for a very reasonable £90 (US$114) a night on Airbnb.
Phoenix House (apt name), is a cosy little one bed home that’s only four miles away from a highly active volcano. The volcanic Emperor has been continuously erupting since 1983. While the listing promises ‘epic volcano views’, it’s not for the faint-hearted.
The listing reads:
‘Surrounded by lava, the scene here is surreal. You are at Pele’s feet…From your window, you can see the plume of smoke where the lava meets the ocean creating the newest land on earth. Smoking Volcano, Glistening Ocean, and miles and miles of dramatic black lava fields are all part of your expansive view and elemental experience here.’
While we do love a good experience, it’s fair to say this little fiery palace deserves a spot on some of the most possibly dangerous places to stay in the world. Despite those ‘dramatic black lava fields’, the cutesy place comes with a kitchenette, a bedroom loft kitted out with a queen-sized bed, modern bathroom, and of course, high-speed WiFi just in case you ever need to Instagram your last moments on Earth.
Oh, and if you fancy a good stretch, the home’s owner Jade teaches yoga in a retreat she dubs ‘a space to go to be reborn’.
Volcanic vacation, anyone?
