It’s only fitting that most Albany history tours start at Bridge House. Designed in the 1850s by Black architect Horace King – who would go on to be recognized as one of the best bridge builders of his time – this piece of Georgia history has led many lives since its construction. Get the full account when you visit – and stay at one of these nearby hotels, bookable on Culture Trip.

There’s a touch of New Orleans elegance to this hotel, with its double-storied veranda and Victorian-style wrought iron balustrades. Its rooms exude old-world charm, too, with polished floorboards, ornate wooden bed frames and plush armchairs. After a day taking in the area’s historic sights, make like a true Southerner and spend the evening sitting in the warm Georgia air, shooting the breeze over a whisky or two at the hotel’s Manor House pub.

For road-trippers just passing through, this hotel by Route 82 is ideal. Rooms are simple, but super comfortable, with deep pile carpets, big windows and a funky blue, orange and green color scheme. Rise and shine with a workout in the fitness center (or a couple of soothing laps in the outdoor heated pool), before refueling with a complimentary breakfast of cereal, waffles and fresh fruit. Next stop? Wherever the wind takes you.

It might not be the boutique or luxury experience you’ll get elsewhere, but when it comes to doing the simple things well, this Holiday Inn nails it. Rooms are simple, yet stylish, with wood-surrounded leather headboards, 40-inch flatscreen TVs and plug outlets within reach of your pillow. The complimentary buffet breakfast is a notch above most, with hot options such as cheese omelet, bacon and turkey sausage. Oh, and kids eat free!

Steps from Ray Charles Plaza and the riverfront, this Hilton inn couldn’t be closer to the heart of Albany’s action. Rooms are decorated in the bright block colors and oversized furniture of a ’90s sitcom set, but they’re cozy and comforting. There’s an on-site eatery – Garden Grille & Bar – and a Starbucks, but since you’re within walking distance of some great restaurants (the excellent Flint is just four minutes away), we’d suggest taking a riverside stroll instead.

It wouldn’t be a proper Georgia vacation without some BBQ. So you’ll be pleased to hear you can grill and chill to your heart’s content at this hotel, with two huge Weber BBQs available for guests to use. With plates teetering, head on over to the gas-powered fire pit to keep the conversation flowing. Gone a little OTT? No sweat – run off a couple of patties in the hotel’s fitness center, or just swim some laps in its outdoor pool.

For a bit of old-world style on a shoestring budget, this no-frills hotel puts a big tick in the box. Pinstripe wallpaper, four-poster beds and framed images of hunting scenes hark back to the Victorian era, while things are kept up-to-date with free wifi, large flatscreen TVs and jetted baths. Kick the morning off with a complimentary hot breakfast before jumping in the car for a short, seven-minute drive to the Bridge House.

Hiding in a quiet corner on the northern fringes of Albany, the Country Inn is a suburban hotel within easy reach of the interstate. Aptly named, this rural-style hotel has a warm atmosphere. Retro armchairs and wood galore make you want to sit by the lobby fireplace before you’ve even checked in, and the nostalgic vibe continues in the carpeted rooms with wooden accents and natural colors. Complete with an indoor pool and tub, and 24-hour business and fitness centers, this relaxed hotel caters to all your work and health requirements.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Epic Trips, Mini Trips and Sailing Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travellers and friends who want to explore the world together.

Epic Trips are deeply immersive 8 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and enough down time to really relax and soak it all in. Our Mini Trips are small and mighty - they squeeze all the excitement and authenticity of our longer Epic Trips into a manageable 3-5 day window. Our Sailing Trips invite you to spend a week experiencing the best of the sea and land in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.

We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
