CrossFit isn’t a type of workout. It’s more of a lifestyle for those who choose to take part it in. Going way beyond “working out”, fitness games and CrossFit training, challenge all aspects of your physical capabilities, and push athletes to their limits. Having exploded onto the scene in the last few years, CrossFit is picking up huge momentum. Now is a better time than ever to get involved in a CrossFit gym near you. Here, The Culture Trip profiles some of South Florida’s upcoming fitness games and competitions that will be drawing in competitors and spectators from around the country.
Lift Up Autism 2016
In October 2013, the CrossFit community rallied together in spectacular fashion to support the Autism community in a worldwide workout event called LiftUpLuke. This ‘competition for a cause’ specifically sought to support early diagnosis and treatment of Autism, raise funds, and turn a global spotlight on the severe impact of Autism on families and individuals around the world. This year, under the more inclusive name of Lift Up Autism, athletes and coaches will get their chance to compete for the third year in a row, in an effort to raise money and awareness. Below are just a few of the South Florida locations that will be participating this month in Lift Up Autism 2016.

Crossfit Armed Presents: Barbells for Boobs
Another upcoming CrossFit event that cleverly combines competition with a good cause is Barbells for Boobs, presented by Crossfit Armed, a non-profit organization dedicated to the early detection of breast cancer, with an emphasis on women under the age of 40. On October 22 of this year, men and women will team up in pairs (same sex) and compete to see who can finish the grueling workout the fastest. 60 clean and jerks per person is the ultimate challenge of one’s will and determination, especially in the Miami heat. There will be a $50 donation, per team, in order to register. The event is limited to 10 participants per time slot, with seven slots to choose from -so take action and register soon!
Get ready to prove your fitness and show everybody how hard you’ve been working in the gym this summer by registering for the 4th annual Dragon Challenge in Doral, Miami. This year the competition is open to all skill levels. There will be four divisions: Novice male and female, Scaled men and female, RX male and female, and Master male and female.
By popular demand, the 2nd annual Battle of The Boxes is Back. Clear your schedule for Saturday, December 12th, because The CrossFit Squad is preparing to host yet another ass-kicking event for the members of CrossFit Boynton Beach, CrossFit Delray Beach The CrossFit Squad. These three gyms will come together in same sex teams of three, for a one day throw down. There’ll be a scaled and Rx division and standards are listed here to help you determine which division is appropriate for you, should you want to go down to compete. Athletes will compete in dead lifts, clean and jerk, pull-ups, snatch, and, of course, box jumps!
Saturday October 22nd will be the first annual Hardcore Barbell Open hosted at CrossFit Hardcore HQ in Boca Raton. This will be a one day event with a cap of 75 athletes and five to six sessions. It will be first come first serve for sign up and sessions will be based on entry/qualification total entered during sign up. This event promises to be entertaining for those in attendance, as there are medals and cash prizes at steak for the different weight classes.

The Crush Games
Want to “crush” the competition this September? If so, then you’re going to have to compete with the best of the best. The Crush Games has become one of the nation’s (not just Florida’s) most talked about fitness events, drawing in large crowds and competitors from all around the USA. These games consist of two different competitions, the Compfit and the Crush Samson Games. The CompFit competition will challenge the endurance, power, and athleticism of each competitor; and the Crush Samson Games, which are a chance to showcase raw strength and power, featuring Olympic lifters, power lifters, and strongmen. The games take place on the 15th and 16th of this month!
