Beach vacations come easy on this sandy strip of land, studded with upscale lodges and coastal inns. We’ve rounded up the best ones, which you can now book with Culture Trip.

If you thought South Beach and Naples were the best cities for a luxury Florida vacation, allow us to introduce you to Amelia Island. Just northeast of Jacksonville, this scenic speck of the Sea Islands chain brushes up against the Georgia border with dune-backed beaches, lush natural spaces and lavish hotels that make you feel like you’re in another world.

Give the family a trip they’ll treasure at the Villas of Amelia Island Plantation – an impressive resort right before broad sands. Parents can celebrate with steak and scotch after lowering their handicap on the golf course. Children of all ages will have a blast at the kids’ playground, Camp Amelia, and the gamers’ lounge. No kids in tow? Make your way to the adults-only pool, and prepare to switch off for the day.

2. Elizabeth Pointe Lodge

At this wonderfully characterful oceanfront bed and breakfast, you’ll get the feeling you’re vacationing on the New England coast. Every guest room is a few paces from the beach, inviting you to start every morning with a quiet stroll on the shore followed by a complimentary breakfast. Tread lightly, though: sea turtles are known to nest near your suite. After a day spent lounging on the sand, savor complimentary beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres before you retreat to your comfortable suite to wind down.

4. Blue Heron Inn

Step back in time at the Blue Heron Inn. In the 19th century, it was a family home; now, as a B&B, its charm and hospitality have stood the test of time. Antiques and original heart-pine flooring adorn all six guest rooms. There are relaxing bathrooms and a gourmet breakfast served on fine china. History buffs will relish staying in the National Historic District of Fernandina, and beach lovers won’t mind the brief stroll to the shore.

5. Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort

It’s the stylish nautical blue-and-white interiors that draw us back to this fine hideaway again and again – particularly the Deluxe Ocean View Rooms with their balconies or patios. The slightly bigger Premier Oceanfronts have breathtaking views of the rolling Atlantic. This is a place for indolence, with a good half a dozen places to eat before you reach the beach. We love the treehousey Falcon’s Nest for old-school burgers and a blackberry-basil Moscow Mule.

6. Beachside Motel

The Beachside Motel is about as far removed from a “roadside motel” as you could imagine. It’s the only oceanfront motel on Amelia Island, so you and the kids can race from the room to the beach in moments – unless you want to wallow in the pool. When you aren’t collecting seashells or sleeping on the pool patio, you can cross the street for fresh seafood at the Surf Bar and Restaurant or hop in the car to explore the boutique shops in historic Fernandina Beach.

7. Amelia Schoolhouse Inn

Hotel

Too cool for school? Not at adults-only Amelia Schoolhouse Inn. Remember your physics and maths lessons while you putt on the green in the courtyard. Get your state-mandated physical education at the heated pool or riding around town on one of the free bikes for hire. Feel like skipping class? You might just get sent straight to The Principal’s Office – an upscale bar that will give you a lesson in mixology 101.

8. The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island

When you stay at the Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, you’ll find its 13mi (21km) stretch of beachfront works its way into every decision you make. Stand on your suite balcony, and inhale the ocean breeze, or make your way to the Intracoastal for a kayaking excursion in search of wildlife-viewing. The resort’s own beehives provide the honey for your signature wellness experience, and the restaurant Coast serves the freshest seafood.

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
