Steeped in American Revolutionary history, New Castle was once the home of the Delaware state government. Locals pay homage to the history of the town each May, when they dress up for A Day in Old New Castle, an event packed with historical re-enactments and tours of homes and landmarks. Nestled between New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland, the town is also well positioned for exploring the historic sites of Philadelphia. If all that sounds like history overload, head to nearby Wilmington for some retail therapy or a river walk. Ready to book your stay? Here’s our pick of the best hotels in New Castle, Delaware – bookable on Culture Trip.
