Los Angeles and fitness go hand in hand. Home to a large population of health fanatics, and what’s got to be some of the best weather the world has to offer, Los Angeles is a city with endless opportunities to workout outdoors. And one of the best things about outdoor workouts is that they can be free if you know where to look. Put on your running shoes, grab your water bottle, and let’s get moving!

Hiking at Griffith Park

Griffith Park has everything you’d ever want from a park and then some! With over 4,200 acres of natural beauty and amazing views, this Los Angeles gem is your proverbial oyster. Hiking, cycling, and jogging are favorites of the outdoor exercisers that frequent the park. You can also camp, and horseback ride here. When you’re done with your workout, relax with a picnic or check out the awesome local attractions like the Griffith Observatory, the Greek Theater, the L.A. Zoo, Travel Town, or the L.A. Equestrian Center.

Baldwin Hills Stairs

If you are a fan of stair climbing, Los Angeles has you covered. One west side favorite is Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook in Culver City. These challenging stairs are steep and vary in height and width to literally keep you on your toes and get your heart pumping. Views from the top are stellar. You can see Hollywood and the Hollywood sign, the skyline of Downtown Los Angeles, and the ocean just beyond Marina del Rey. At the top of the stairs, if you make it that far, there is an outdoor amphitheater where you can stretch, do some abdominal work, or just rest and enjoy the view.

Santa Monica Stairs

If you are looking for the trendiest stairs in Los Angeles, look no further and head to Santa Monica. This popular beach adjacent climb will make your legs burn and your heart race. Once you reach the top, take in the breathtaking views of the ocean. After you get your sweat on, relax on the grass and stretch, or just relax and catch your breath.

PCH, Point Dume, Sand Hill

Thornhill Broome Beach State Park is known for its campgrounds but it also happens to have what locals refer to as the ‘sand hill.’ Right off of PCH in Malibu near Point Dume, this strenuous incline is essentially a wall of sand and it will kick your booty as you make your way up. Once you reach the top, enjoy the picture perfect views of the Pacific Ocean, and a beach breeze to cool you off. You’re also sure to see a celebrity or two getting their burn on right along side of you!

Grand Hope Park, Downtown Los Angeles

Nestled in the middle of downtown Los Angeles, Grand Hope Park provides beautiful, lush, and soft grass, and outdoor gym equipment. There is an incline bench for sit-ups, stairs and some other options to take advantage of. Of course jogging around the grounds is also a popular activity here. After your workout, check out the fashion district, jewelry mart, or relax in Pershing Square. You can also head over to Olvera Street, which is known as Los Angeles’s “first street” if you are interested in adding a little bit of history to your fitness routine.
