Holiday Ice Rink In Union Square

Strap on your skates and enjoy the winter festivities at one of San Francisco’s most prominent landmarks, the Holiday Ice Rink in Union Square. The rink is open to visitors of all ages, giving you the chance to skate in an environment surrounded by festive lights and holiday displays. Enjoy an up close view of the massive Macy’s holiday tree, and be sure to check out the holiday window displays presented by the stores surrounding Union Square.

Holiday Ice Rink at Embarcadero Center

For an alternate seasonal skating experience, check out the Holiday Ice Rink at Embarcadero Center. This rink is the largest outdoor ice rink in the Bay Area, and it will be open from November 2nd through January 8th. The rink is located at Justin Herman Plaza, just across from San Francisco’s Ferry Building. The rink is open daily during the holiday season, offering 90-minute sessions for $11 general admission ($7 for children up to age eight) and $5 skate rental.

Yerba Buena Ice Skating & Bowling Center

For an ice skating experience that is open all year round, visit the Yerba Buena Ice Skating & Bowling Center. It is open every day of the year, including weekends and holidays. The rink offers daily public skating sessions, morning adult-only sessions and even a toddler area. Aside from open skating, the rink offers lessons in figure skating and hockey, in addition to shows and competitions in both sports. You can also host group events here or browse through the onsite pro shop.

Oakland Ice Center

Outside of San Francisco proper, one of the best Bay Area ice rinks is the Oakland Ice Center. The facility is operated by the San Jose Sharks, but is open for events of any size. There are two rinks inside, including one olympic-sized rink and a smaller rink. Lots of ice sports take place here, including ice hockey, figure skating, broomball, curling, speed skating and ice dancing. Public skating sessions are available, too, and there is a snack bar and pro shop on site.

Nazareth Ice Oasis

South of San Francisco, be sure to check out Nazareth Ice Oasis in Redwood City. This facility offers a high quality ice rink suitable for figure skaters of all levels. This location specializes in skate coaching, offering both national and international coaching services. Services include freestyle and dance sessions, videotaping, harness training and customized freestyle classes. Whether you are a brand new figure skater or an advanced one, Nazareth is the place for you.

Dry Ice Roller Hockey Arena

Another excellent ice rink facility in Oakland is the Dry Ice Roller Hockey Arena. This facility offers both open skating for hockey players and hockey leagues. On Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, the rink offers one hour open skate sessions for $5. Equipment required includes helmets, gloves, skates and sticks; pucks are not available on site.
