Summer will be over soon, but don’t let that get you down. Labor Day can offer you tasty drinks and relaxation. Here are some delicious, yet simple concoctions. Take it easy and try some of these (labor-less) cocktails in LA.

LA Highball

This cocktail takes an easy-drinking whiskey, like SLOW HAND Six Woods whiskey from Greenbar Distillery in LA, and combines it with citrus, sweet, orange bitters, and ginger beer. The result is a complex taste that has a bit of late summer and early fall, which can be enjoyed all times of the day.

Recipe:

1 ½ oz SLOW HAND Organic Six Woods whiskey

½ oz freshly squeezed lemon juice

½ oz sugar syrup

2-3 dashes of orange bitters, like Regan’s orange bitters

3-4 oz ginger beer, like Saranac

Garnish – lemon peel or lemon slice

Glass – Collins or Highball

Prep: Add all ingredients except ginger beer to a mixing tin or glass. Add ice. Shake and pour over fresh ice in a collins glass. Garnish.

Even with the tequila base, this cocktail is refreshing and offers some complex flavors, satisfying all the taste buds. IXA delivers a rich agave, herbs, and a buttery finish. Enjoy sipping this during your Labor Day picnic or happy hour.

Recipe:

1 oz IXA Organic Silver Tequila

½ oz Elderflower Liqueur

3 oz ruby red grapefruit juice, preferably freshly squeezed

Top with dry Prosecco

Garnish – grapefruit peel

Glass – Highball

Prep: Add all ingredients except Prosecco to a mixing glass or tin. Add ice. Shake and pour over fresh ice in a highball glass. Garnish.

This cocktail is similar to a Negroni, but this bubbly cocktail calls for club soda instead of gin, making a lighter beverage that pairs easily with anything from barbecue to hot dogs on Labor Day. The lower alcohol content allows you enjoy them all afternoon.

Recipe:

1 oz Campari

1 oz sweet vermouth, such as M & R

1 oz club soda

Garnish – orange peel

Glass – Rocks or highball

Prep: Add Campari and sweet vermouth to an ice-filled highball or rocks glass. Add club soda and stir gently. Garnish.

Mandarin Sunrise

This cocktail combines a slew of organic products and, on paper, looks like a summer cocktail. On the contrary, the depth and complexity of the Mandarin Sunrise with the addition of rose and hibiscus syrup is an all-season elixir. Square One is a Californian-based vodka emanating from Novato.

Recipe:

1 oz Square One Bergamot Organic vodka

¾ oz FRUITLAB Ginger Liqueur

¾ oz tangerine juice

½ oz sugar syrup (optional)

1-2 drops of Wild Hibiscus rose & hibiscus concentrate

Garnish – edible hibiscus flower or orange peel

Glass – Collins

Prep: Add all ingredients to a mixing glass or tin. Add ice. Shake and pour into an ice-filled collins glass. Garnish.

Pomegranate Cosmo

The addition of pomegranate and orange to the classic Cosmo makes this cocktail perfect for a day in the sun with friends or a relaxing day or night at home. The Cosmo continues to be one of the most popular cocktails in the world. This version is less tart and more flavorful than the original.

Recipe:

2 oz TRU Organic Vodka

½ oz Combier d’Orange Liqueur

½ oz PAMA Pomegranate Liqueur

¼ oz fresh lime juice

¼ oz pulp-free orange juice

¼ oz POM juice

Garnish – orange or lime spiral

Glass – Cocktail or coupe

Prep: Add all ingredients to a mixing tin or glass. Add ice. Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish.
