Wild Wonderland At The Zoo

A great pick for a family evening holiday celebration, the LA Zoo Lights creates holiday magic with a brilliant display of seasonal merriment. Within the sprawling zoo park setting, visitors can take part in a 60- or 90-minute self-guided tour. Instead of live animals, laser creature figures are displayed on massive projection screens. 3D presentations make the lions, tigers, and bears appear even more lively. In addition to the grand light show, you’ll find Reindeer Rump, a zoo attraction featuring actual reindeer, not the LED powered reindeer props we’re used to around these parts. The Wonderland runs until January 3.

Opulent Display Along Rodeo Dr

With a classic, sophisticated ‘winter wonderland’ approach to decoration, Rodeo Drive is a must-see holiday display stop. A star-studded light ceremony marks the opulent holiday nights in Beverly Hills. Luxurious Rodeo storefronts – from Tiffany Co. to Chanel – are made ever more alluring with a touch of garland and glistening shrubbery. Locals and visitors especially gather to admire the main Christmas tree atop the famous Rodeo steps. Crowds also gather for photo ops at a grand menorah. Begin the Rodeo tour at the 200 block by Dayton Way.

Captivating Candy Cane Lane – Woodland Hills

Come December, a chunk of residential Woodland Hills transforms into Candy Cane Lane. The spectacular eight-block Lubao-Oxnard St collaboration is a sight to behold. Residents deck their houses with millions of lights and spare no flair – from the blow-up Santa and friends to the traditional nativity scenes and everything in between. Most here don’t mind the curious outsiders coming into the neighborhood – in fact, they embrace the foot traffic with holiday cheer. Just off the 101 freeway, venture to Candy Cane Lane between sundown to 9pm to catch this exciting holiday evening event.

Merry Marvelous Mission Just Outside LA

Want a little escape from LA to enjoy the holidays? Make it a mission to go to arguably the most handsome display of lights in all of Southern California. Located in Riverside, Mission Inn is a Spanish-style hotel and spa destination that draws several thousands to tour its grounds, which are made ever-so-gorgeous during the holidays. The spectacular Festival of Lights, which features the ceremonial pomp of music and fireworks, kicks off the holiday fun. Afterward, it’s all about taking a stroll in and around the hotel. An amazing four million lights are placed on the castle-like exterior alone. Among the elaborate decorations are several toy soldiers and Christmas fairy tale creatures for the festive season. Even the most traffic-loathing Angeleno sees the worth of a little crunch on the 10 Freeway to arrive at elegant Mission Inn.
