With Mexico to the south and Japan out to the west, maybe it was only a matter of time that one Los Angeles chef decided to do a culinary mash up. The result? Norigami’s food truck and their sushi nori tacos.
How the sushi taco got invented
According to Norigami’s website, ‘it all started one (slightly drunken) night when our chef was working a late shift at her part-time cooking job at the local sushi restaurant. With nothing to look forward to but a slow night, bored experimentation began. As somewhat of a joke, a sheet of nori was dipped into tempura batter and dropped into the fryer. We added some leftover sushi rice, krab mix, and whatever sushi scraps we got our hands on and TA-DAH!’
THIS thing of beauty for example, is their crispy soft-shell crab, spicy mayo drizzle and citrus ponzu – yum.
All this started in May 2016, and such has been the clamour over the past 12 months for their particular brand of fusion food that they’re now looking to crowdfund a $10,000 bricks and mortar restaurant. If you want to get involved you can help them here.
