Tree lightings, craft fairs and more of the best events and things to do in San Francisco this weekend.

Friday 11/27

Macy’s Great Tree Lighting

Kick off the holiday season at Macy’s 26th Annual tree lighting celebration this Friday in Union Square. Starting at 6pm, the event will begin with a special performance by American Idol winner Jordin Sparks and end with the lighting of San Francisco’s most famous Christmas tree! If you want a particularly good viewing spot, head up to the balcony of the Cheesecake Factory on top of the Macy’s building – it won’t be as packed and you can enjoy nice a cocktail while you wait for the tree to be lit.

When: Friday, November 27th. 6 to 11 pm (lighting at 6:40pm)

Where:  Union Square Park, 323 Geary St, San Francisco, CA, USA

Tickets: FREE

Nutcracker Under the Dome

If the San Francisco Ballet’s performance of the Nutcracker is a little out of your price range this holiday season, don’t fret,  Westfield San Francisco is holding its own performance of the Nutcracker free of charge! Inspired by the beauty and magnificence of the SF Ballet, the Westfield Nutcracker will run from November 19 through December 31, every half hour from 5:00 p.m. until closing. Set under the iconic Westfield dome, the performance is a great way to enjoy a favorite holiday tradition without breaking the bank.

When: Friday, November 27. Half hour showings from 5pm-8:30pm

Where: Westfield San Francisco Centre, 865 Market Street, San Francisco, CA, USA

Tickets: FREE [register here]

Saturday 11/28

Gingerbread Open House

Standing at 22 feet tall and made from thousands of homemade (completely edible) gingerbread bricks, the Fairmont San Francisco’s world-famous Gingerbread House is most likely the largest, most decadent Gingerbread House you will ever see. Head down to the Fairmont this Saturday to watch the big unveiling and enjoy the holiday music and refreshments provided for the occasion.

When: Saturday, November 28. 11am-3pm

Where: The Fairmont, 950 Mason St, San Francisco, CA, USA

Tickets: FREE [RSVP on Facebook]
