We’ve brought together a selection of top L.A. hotels where private balconies won’t cost a fortune, from beachside lodgings in Venice to a Hollywood boutique inspired by legends of the silver screen.

It’s not necessary to shell out for a suite to get some outside space at Venice Beach’s Hotel Erwin: all accommodations, from the City View Room to the Apartment Suite, have their own balconies and views of either the ocean or the Venice skyline. Head to on-site store Erwin’s General, pick up a bottle of Californian wine or some cold beers, crack open on your private terrace and enjoy. To carry on the party Venice-style, wander upstairs to the High Rooftop Bar for craft cocktails, sliders and tacos, and for views that span almost 360 degrees.

This charming Hollywood property was built in the 1920s, as a base for silent film stars working in the nearby studios. In 2004, it was purchased by designer and entrepreneur Brogan Lane (wife of British actor Dudley Moore from 1988 to 1991), who converted it into a boutique hotel consisting of five meticulously designed suites, each themed around a Hollywood legend. The Art Deco and Parisian Suites – inspired by Humphrey Bogart and Grace Kelly, respectively – have their own private balconies, and the English Suite showcases Dudley Moore’s piano, childhood memorabilia and carved-wood bed.
