The Bay Area, filled with countless pubs, micro-breweries, and bottle shops, is known for its beer festivals and beer-related events. The East Bay especially has been booming with summer festivals where beer lovers can taste a number of beers and discover new flavors. Black Diamond Brewery, located in Concord, CA, is one brewery in particular that is throwing a summer-themed event, Tank Tops and Flip Flops, this Saturday, August 22nd, 2015.

This will be the brewery’s third annual event of Tank Tops and Flip Flops featuring live music on two stages (Gigantis, The Whoa Band, ZenKali, The Skoops, Black Box Radio, The Pitchforks, Benjamin Sairin and more), arts and crafts, raffles, hot rods, and tons of delicious food. There is no cover charge so you can taste as many beers as you want. Year round beers include Jagged Edge IPA, Freestyle Belgian Blonde, Steep Trail Amber Ale, and Rampage Imperial IPA.

The brewery enjoys throwing family-friendly indoor/outdoor events like this multiple times a year in order to invite back their regulars and also get the name of Black Diamond Brewing Company out there. They also hold a pig roast usually the Saturday after Black Friday, which is a similar event with live music, delicious food and, of course, tons of beer. All Black Diamond ever really wants to do is generate a good time for everyone. These events have people making new friends, seeing old ones, kids dancing to the music and playing cornhole and other lawn games, with the option to sit inside the taproom or head outside to a covered area to be closer to the live music and games.

Nick Ford, who has been with the brewery since 2012, started out in operations and pouring beer during hours in the taproom, and now is the label designer for the company. Ford graduated from Academy of Art University in 2010, majoring in automotive design. You can see dedication in Ford’s attitude about the Black Diamond. He goes around to the various pubs and bars in the Bay who distribute the beer to see how everything is going. He’s personable and friendly and this has only helped when having events like Tank Tops and Flip Flops. It’s that personality and openness that can help any business. He talks fondly of the company and all that they continue to strive to do in the world of beer.

The other people on the team that have made Black Diamond Brewery what it is today are Justin Burdt (head brewer), Christian Olivier (assistant brewer), Shawn Whitaker (production manager), Andrew Leach (sales/operations), Mike Pierce (sales director), Jack Cowheard (sales), Gianna Rizzo (administration), Greg Meister (operations), and Kyle McGary (operations). They are an amazingly fun, friendly and hardworking group of people. Come meet them all this weekend. They have more than enough beer.

“It’s not about the beer – It’s about the beer!”
