Bacca Da Silva is a San Franciscan designer from Brazil, blending fashion and art to create a unique style all of his own. We find out how he got into the fashion industry, what he loves about San Francisco, and what inspires his work.
Why did you get into Fashion?
More like a calling, passion for fashion, something I love. I grew up in Sao Paolo Brazil watching my mother sew for the whole family. After earning my MBA from Thunderbird, I debuted as leading upcoming designer in GEN ART fashion show and I opened my atelier in San Francisco.
What do you love about Fashion?
Fashion changes, it’s unsettled, keeps me busy, keeps me guessing, I like the idea that fashion is always changing, new, interesting. I can have a voice. I can create my own world. The world of Bacca Da Silva.
What inspires your designs?
I like beauty, beautiful things, find beauty in unexpected places, translate the beauty I see into clothing. I have a voice through clothing. I find beauty in everything I see: nature, a rainy day the way rain dissipates, flora and fauna, Maria Callas, urban landscape, seasons, artwork, luscious colors and materials… Not strict, I start a sketch with an inspiration, I add elements of shape, color, intricacy of pattern, beading, appliqué, sequins… all by hand.

What do you like about San Francisco?
I love the weather, doesn’t have the extremes; the city is busier, manageable; the people are more approachable.
