From murals to street art to gallery exhibitions, San Francisco is dripping with visual artistic expression. Since space is an issue in the 7×7 city, these neighborhood coffee shops have offered up their walls to local artists. Here are some highlights if you’re in the area.

Momi Toby’s Revolution

Momi Toby’s is a coffeehouse, eatery, and art bar in Hayes Valley that features work by local artists on a five-week rotation. The establishment also hosts other types of work by local artists, including spoken-word pieces, poetry, and live music.

Wicked Grounds

This coffeehouse, adult gallery, and boutique in SoMa features erotic artwork by local and non-local artists, kink toys, kink education, and gear for patrons 18 and older. Get your fix, whether it be caffeine or something a little more mischievous, at Wicked Grounds.

Dogpatch Café

Dogpatch Café is much more than a coffee shop. Apart from the uniquely delicious food options, it regularly hosts events in collaboration with local artists and pop-up shops in the galleries, featuring handcrafted local work, art exhibitions, sound performances, and community meetings. Dogpatch brings the neighborhood together in a collaborative and progressive way that celebrates local creativity.

Mamá Art Café

This café is unique in that it focuses on social justice. In addition to featuring exhibitions by local and international artists, musicians, and poets, Mamá Art Café distributes free-trade organic coffee and spices in an effort to support health care, education, housing, employment, and legal representation (called ‘HEHEL’ by the staff). Mamá Art Café is working on officially becoming a non-profit organization.
