Labor Day weekend is open to all sorts of fun and excitement, especially in San Francisco. The City by the Bay offers endless options for the long holiday weekend for both locals and tourists. It’s a perfect weekend not only for those looking to stay out of the Indian Summer sun by maybe taking in a show but also those who want to bask in the San Francisco summer weather!

Labor Day Sail and Paella Party on Angel Island

All aboard the Schooner Freda B this Labor Day weekend! The Sail and Paella Party makes a voyage to the infamous Angel Island. For the rest of the year, the excursion is normally a private experience that groups pay a premium to enjoy. However, Labor Day Sunday welcomes the public to set sail! Tickets include transportation to Angel Island, a Paella feast on the island, and then a sail around San Francisco Bay. Only the finest Spanish ingredients are served, as well as an assortment of beverages that pair well with the dish, such as Spanish wines, which will be available for purchase at a cash bar.

Labor Day Picnic Party & 2018 Model Previews

Dudley Perkins, or better known as Harley-Davidson, will be throwing their famous Labor Day Event and picnic once again in San Francisco. Come check out the reveal of the 2018 models while enjoying food and fun. Lyle Koch of Antonella’s Banquets & Catering Company will be catering the delicious BBQ lunch between noon and 4 p.m., but that’s not all. Catch Something Rotten

Are you looking for a show this Labor Day weekend? Head over to the Orpheum Theatre to see Something Rotten. This witty play tells the story of how two writers tried to become famous playwrights. But their fame is road blocked when another writer, Shakespeare, keeps showing them up. There will be four performances over the holiday weekend: one on Friday, two on Saturday, and a final showing on Sunday. Find tickets here.

Union Square Live

This next event is available all summer long, but still worth mentioning for Labor Day weekend fun. You can watch and groove to free live music and dance performances in Union Square with Union Square Live. There are no tickets required. Just make your way to Union Square between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon during Labor Day Weekend to watch the performance.

Free Admission to the Asian Art Museum

The Sunday during Labor Day weekend is free admission day at the Asian Art Museum. Target First See Sunday—yes, sponsored by Target—features free admission to give you access to the permanent collection at the museum. There is so much to see, and you will certainly be wowed. Free admission is on a first come, first served system, so make sure that you arrive early.

Yerba Buena Gardens Festival

On Saturday during the holiday weekend, check out the Yerba Buena Gardens for a free, live musical performance. Performing from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. will be Kugelplex with special guest Linda Tillery. They play lively, dance, and party music. The festival itself is a great place to experience the theater and dance culture of San Francisco. It’s kid-friendly too.

Free Shakespeare in the park

Three performances of the infamous Hamlet will be available during the holiday weekend. All three shows are free and made possible by the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival. The shows start at 2:00 p.m., including a short intro at 1:30 p.m., each day through Labor Day weekend. The performances take place on the Presidio’s Main Post Parade Ground Lawn. Make sure to arrive early to grab a great seat!

Walking tours by San Francisco City Guides

San Francisco Comic Con

Last but not least, what better way to indulge your proud inner-nerd than attending San Francisco Comic Con. This internationally loved event will take place at the Moscone Center West the entire Labor Day weekend. There, you can get autographs and photos with your favorite comic book stars. The event also features hundreds of exhibits where you can pick up comic books, art, toys, and so much more! Celebrities even attend; Sean Astin, Nichelle Nichols, Cary Elwes, and Ray Park are among those expected to be there this year.
