Apple has released its year-end roundup of the top US apps for iPads and iPhones and unsurprisingly, Facebook, Google, and Snapchat claimed 11 of the top 20 app spots.

The App Store editors also identified four breakout trends in app culture for 2017: the introduction of AR (augmented reality) apps and games, the rise of real-time competitive gaming, apps focused on mental health and mindfulness and apps transforming storytelling and reading. Health and fitness app Calm won 2017 iPhone App of the Year, Splitter Critters took home 2017 iPhone Game of the Year, Affinity Photo was awarded 2017 iPad App of the Year and The Witness got 2017 iPad Game of the Year.
