Eid al-Fitr is a celebration enjoyed by Muslims worldwide. It translates to “festival of breaking the fast,” and immediately follows Ramadan, a month-long period during which Muslims fast from sunrise until sunset. In 2017, Eid al-Fitr falls on Sunday, June 25th, but technically begins at sunset on Saturday, June 24th when the moon becomes visible. Celebratory activities include prayer, gift-giving, wearing new clothes, and cooking and enjoying delicious meals.

Eid Festival 2017 takes place in downtown Anaheim on July 1st and 2nd from noon to 10 p.m. both days. Activities include food, live performances, a parade, vendors, and games. A spinoff of the Anaheim event, Cleveland’s first annual Eid Festival takes place on July 1st and 2nd from noon to 9 p.m., with games, obstacle courses, face painting, vendors, workshops, and more.
Eid al-Fitr 2017 – Salt Lake City, UT
The Afghan American Cultural Society is hosting a gathering at Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 25th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Guests are invited to bring prepared food from home to the park as part of a potluck.
Eid al-Fitr at Pretend City – Irvine, CA
Pretend City is an Irvine, California children’s museum that mimics a city, but sized for kids. Celebrate Eid is on June 26th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Activities include storytime with It’s Ramadan; a screening of the educational film It’s Time to Celebrate Eid; and henna.
