THEATRE | See The Broadway Classic The Lion King In Mexico

Who doesn’t love The Lion King? A staple of many a millennial’s childhood, this February you can watch it live in Mexico City. CULTURE | Learn More About The History Of Tattooing

After undergoing extensive remodelling works over the last few months, the Museo del Tatuaje will reopen in early February according to the latest projections. Stop by and learn more about this fascinating and ancient art form; maybe you’ll even get some inspiration for your next piece.

ART | Remedios Varo On Display At The Museo de Arte Moderno

As one of Mexico’s best surrealist artists – ranking right up there with Frida and Leonora Carrington – Remedios Varo’s artwork makes for essential viewing. February is your last chance to enjoy some of her most representative pieces at Mexico City’s Museo de Arte Moderno before the show closes at the end of the month. From alchemy to literature, psychoanalysis to science, all Varo’s interests can be observed here, including several biographical elements.

CINEMA | Head Down To The Cineteca’s Stanley Kubrick Exhibition

📅 All February – Sunday, April 30th

The much anticipated Stanley Kubrick exhibition hits the Cineteca Nacional and will run right through to April, meaning you’ll have plenty of time to check it out. Iconic costumes from Clockwork Orange will be on display, accompanied by screenings of beloved Kubrick classics like 2001: A Space Odyssey . This is your best chance to see many of these privately-owned Kubrick mementos in one place.

PHOTOGRAPHY | Check Out The Captivating Photography Of Anja Jensen

Anja Jensen is an accomplished German photographer who has captured some enchanting snaps of women in one of Mexico City’s most dangerous, but admittedly quite understood, neighbourhoods – Tepito. Her photo series Ciudadanas will be on display until February 12, 2017 so don’t miss out.

ART | Head To The MODO For A Culinary Exhibition

The exhibitions at the MODO never disappoint and this January is no exception. Plato a la boca. Cocina, Utensilios y diseño might sound like an exceptionally dull subject, yet in reality it’s set to be one of the year’s most fascinating exhibits. Excellently curated, it examines everything from kitchen utensils to recipes and the male chef vs. female homemaker divide.

MUSIC | Colombia Comes To Mexico With Carlos Vives

📅 Thursday, February 2nd

Carlos Vives, the successful Colombian songbird back in the international spotlight of late after collaborating with Colombia’s national treasure Shakira, will be performing live in Mexico City this month. While it’s unlikely that Shakira will put in an appearance to perform Bicicleta, you should check it out anyway!

MUSIC | See Sussie 4 Perform In This Popular CDMX Bar

📅 Saturday, February 4th

If you’d rather see a local act in a distinctly more intimate location, then you must grab tickets to see electro innovators Sussie 4 in city centre bar Pasaguero this February. Tickets are still available on Ticketmaster and it’s a great chance to see someone lesser known on the international scene.

MUSIC | Mexican Favourites DLD Play Live This Month

📅 Saturday, February 4th

Sticking with the concert theme, DLD are also putting on a show in Mexico City this month. They’ll be playing some of their greatest hits and new tracks at the Auditorio Nacional, so you should take a look at tickets before they sell out. Once known rather unfortunately as Dildo, they may have rebranded but they continue to be at the top of their musical game.

SPORT | Cycle For Free In Mexico City

If you’re in desperate need of some free activities on your trip to Mexico City this February then give the weekly bike ride down Reforma a go. ART | Head To Reforma’s Material Art Fair This Month

THEATRE | See Billy Elliot The Musical Live In The Mexican Capital

OK, so technically this entails leaving Mexico City, but the hippie paradise of Carnaval Bahidorá can’t be left off this guide of the best things to do in February. If you’re more into theatre than music, then perhaps the stage production El Loco Y La Camisa will be more up your street.
