1. Orchid House Polanco

Orchid House is a light-filled turn-of-the-century mansion on one of the tree-lined street Campos Elíseos. Each suite is filled with vintage details, such as Spanish tile and punched-tin ceilings, and don’t miss the orchid left in the entryway. Walk one block north for the shopping street of Masaryk or head a block south to the giant Bosque de Chapultepec.

3. The Green Park Hotel

The Green Park Hotel occupies a renowned art deco building just off Avenida Constituyentes, across the street from Bosque de Chapultepec and a short walk to the nearest Metro station. Each of the 33 suites has a refined look, decked out with English-style furniture, and comes with views of the park or the interior patio. Casa Emilia belongs to a new generation of luxury bed and breakfasts cropping up around the city. It has just seven rooms, so your stay is sure to feel intimate, whether you pick the airy, white-walled suite with open windows or the exposed-brick bedroom with blackout curtains. It’s perfectly located between Polanco and other key points of interest, including the nearby Ángel de la Independencia on Avenida Reforma.

5. Pug Seal

This Pug Seal hotel on Edgar Allan Poe, just off Masaryk Avenue, made a name for the brand with funky wallpaper, geometric art and quirky details such as busts of traditional Mexican alebrijes. Pug Seal has expanded to two other Polanco locations (double-check your booking), a spot in Coyoacán and a branch in Oaxaca City. Be sure to take time out in the temazcal in the main garden – a type of traditional sweat lodge popular in the south of the country, though rare in Mexico City.

6. Las Alcobas

Las Alcobas has become synonymous with a kind of upscale luxury you only really find in this Mexico City neighborhood. Camino Real Polanco was built for the 1968 Olympics, and the property has an attractive Mexican-modern architectural style, created by renowned architect Ricardo Legorreta. There are various room categories, from deluxe to a presidential suite, and all feature modern interiors with bold pops of color. On the amenities front, there are ample food and drink options, a beautiful large pool set in an attractive garden, a spa, a boutique, a kids club and even a heliport.

This jewel box of a hotel makes for a charming base in the city, with romantic interiors and a warm ambiance. The lobby is a feature in itself, with an exquisitely painted ceiling and tiled floor. There are just 11 (beautifully designed) rooms at this upscale spot, and all feature L’Occitane bathroom products, plush robes and king-size beds. Breakfast can be enjoyed in the comfort of your room or in the internal courtyard.
