Mexican representation at the Olympics this year has included a total of 125 athletes across 26 different disciplines, but the one that has caught the attention of the world is Mexicali native, artistic gymnast Alexa Moreno. Now the subject of several paintings and drawings, Alexa Moreno is the only female Mexican gymnast to have participated in the Rio Olympics, alongside her male counterpart, Daniel Corral. The 22-year-old Mexican star first stole the headlines for all the wrong reasons – or rather, her critics did. Bullied for her body shape, size and appearance, images and comments spread about her like wildfire, but not before these beautiful artistic efforts stepped in to put them in their place.
