What's On In Toronto | Weekend June 17–19, 2016

Picture of Culture Trip Toronto
Updated: 7 October 2016
And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.’F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

Channel that indulgent Gatsby lifestyle this weekend as Toronto gears up for the Summer Solstice on Monday, June 20th. From cold craft beer to hot bands, and luxury cars to a celebration of all things pasta and pizza, we’ve got you covered with what’s on this weekend.

FRIDAY

MUSIC  |  Cold Specks & NXNE

Celebrate a belated Blooms Day (June 16th, the date where the hour-by-hour events unfold for Leopold Bloom in James Joyce’s Ulysses) at Lee’s Palace catching Cold Specks. Cold Specks is the stage name for Toronto born Ladan Hussein, a name she took from a line in Ulysses. Her music, a fascinating blend between gospel and folk, will make for the ideal Friday evening.

DRINK  |  Ontario Craft Beer Week

Don’t miss out on Ontario Craft Beer Week, the province’s biggest celebration of our beloved beverage: beer. Enjoy nine days of craft beer events hosted across the city. You can keep the craft beer celebrations going all summer long with Toronto’s Craft Beer Passport.

FOOD  |  Taco Fest

Head to Taco Fest, as presented by Taste Toronto, and catch Toronto’s hottest chefs serving up authentic Mexican dishes. Taco Fest runs all weekend long, but Saturday and Sunday are already sold out… luckily for you, Friday tickets are still available here.

FESTIVAL  |  The Junction Summer Solstice Festival

It’s no Stonehenge, but The Junction is putting on a killer summer solstice event; so, kick off summer with the first festival of the season at The Junction Summer Solstice Festival.
