Toronto Instagrammer in Focus: @icingandglitter

Toronto is no stranger to minimal fashion and neither is blogger Siffat Haider. You might recognize Siffat from Instagram, where she goes by the handle @icingandglitter. Her feed is curated with a touch of elegance and contains enough outfit inspiration to get you through all your stylistically uninspired days. We recently chatted with Siffat about everything from style icons, to brunch and shopping recommendations in the city.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m a Toronto-based fashion and lifestyle blogger and brunch enthusiast. In my free time, I like to ponder over why I never received an admission letter to Hogwarts.

Just FYI, straighteners are rendered useless in Tulum 🌊

What inspired you to start your blog?

I’d always been passionate about writing, and needed an outlet for my creativity. I didn’t really know what area of work in the creative industry I wanted to get into, so I figured I would do a little bit of everything and use a blog as a means of expression.

Who are some of your fashion inspirations/icons?

In terms of people I draw direct inspiration from, I’d say Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. However, when it comes to fashion icons/people I’m totally in awe of, it would be J.W. Anderson, Stella McCartney and Phoebe Philo.

Still can't get over this gorgeous number by @mikaeldofficial. My recap of fashion week is now on the blog 👰

How would you describe your personal style?

Minimal, low-maintenance, comfortable.

Can I per-suede you to jump on this 70s trend? More on the blog.

What are your top recommendations for shopping in city?

I personally love shopping at Canadian retailers. 90% of my wardrobe is from Aritzia and Oak & Fort. In terms of stand alone boutiques, I love Smoke + Ash on Queen West.

What is the story behind your Instagram handle @icingandglitter?

It’s funny because whenever I tell people my blog is called Icing and Glitter, they take one look at my Stan Smiths and chunky sweater and respond with a confused expression. The story is that I used to be obsessed with baking (cupcakes in particular) when I initially thought of a name for my blog. So although my blog has absolutely nothing to do with icing or glitter, the name sort of stuck and I decided to go with it.

In your opinion, what are three things that instantly amp up a look?

A hat, a moto jacket, and a comfortable pair of shoes so you can walk with confidence.

You mention you’re a brunch enthusiast. What is your top pick for brunch in Toronto?

Top pick? That’s like asking a parent to pick a favorite child. I can narrow it down to a few favorites: The Commodore, Thoroughbred, and Momofuku Daisho.

Another addition to my top 5 Toronto brunch spots list. Head to the blog to read more about this hidden gem 🍳
