Whether you’re in the mood for a healthy snack or decadent dessert, Vancouver has you covered. Check out some of our favourite lunch spots on your next visit.

1.

Coffee Shop, Coffee

Every café sells baked treats, but Their There in the beachside neighborhood of Kitsilano takes its carbs as seriously as its caffeine. After all, the nuanced notes of a single-origin Kenyan coffee deserve the equally sophisticated sweetness of Thai tea cronuts with lemongrass glaze and candied Thai basil. Their There sources beans from roasters like Vancouver’s Luna, while baking kouign-amanns, croissants and donuts in house. Its smoked meat, egg and gruyere breakfast sandwiches will spoil anyone’s appetites for McMuffins. Lunch and dinner feature tasty sandwiches and burgers, but check the café’s website for kitchen hours.

2.

Coffee Shop, Coffee

Most cafés on this list cater to the coffee uber-geeks that frequent gentrifying artsy neighborhoods like Gastown. Small Victory lets the quinoa-salad-and-avocado-toast crowds in Yaletown and South Granville get in on top-flight brews too. Its pour-over beans come from Prototype and other cool Canadian roasters. Small Victory bakes naturally leavened bread for its aforementioned toast, and for sandwiches like its turkey BLT. The café serves breakfast and lunch at both locations.

3.

Market, Restaurant, Indian

Himalaya restaurant offers a wide variety of Indian dishes, including some actual Punjabi, as well as Nepalese food. Like many Indian places, there is a lunch buffet as well as a separate menu. One of the best dishes is the always great butter chicken and the paneer.

5.

Cafe, Restaurant, Canadian, American

Acme Cafe is based in an historic building on West Hastings Street, built in 1907 and home for over sixty years to the Paris family’s Shoe Emporium. Acme Cafe is especially well-known for the quality of the pies and desserts. You can drop in for breakfast or a more substantial sitting later in the day. Breakfast dishes on offer include plenty of ham, eggs, and muffins, with lunchtime sandwiches available such as smoked salmon, roast shrimp and BLT. Main dishes include wild boar and turkey cassoulet or roast chicken.

6.

Restaurant, Healthy, Fusion

Bao Down has two locations in Vancouver (Gastown and Olympic Village) and has built an unbeatable reputation thanks to their unique “Pacific Rim fusion” menu. Locals line up for both lunch and dinner in order to try dishes like their Fly Hawaiian Poke. Customers can choose between three proteins—each served over nuts, Korean sea salt, wasabi, avocado, rice cake crisps, toasted nori, and compressed mango.

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
