Home of the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies, this pretty mountain town is favored by outdoor enthusiasts who want to go totally off-grid. While you can enjoy a luxurious vacation too, a trip here can be done on a shoestring, thanks to this selection of quality hostels in Jasper – bookable on Culture Trip.

1. HI Mt Edith Cavell

Hostel

HI Mt Edith Cavell takes things back to basics, with limited creature comforts in this Jasper hostel. You won’t find running water or electricity here, but you will find plenty of firewood, purified water for cooking, a refrigerator, propane stoves and lights. Framed by Angel Glacier, Cavell Meadows and its namesake, Mount Edith Cavell, it’s a favorite spot with hikers, cyclists and even cross-country skiers, many of whom use it as a base from which to explore the trails of the Tonquin Valley. The hostel’s heartbeat is its communal kitchen, where visitors from around the globe cook together, play cards and exchange travel tips.

2. HI Beauty Creek

Hostel

For something a little more rustic, opt for off-the-grid living at HI Beauty Creek, where a lack of electricity and running water is remedied by some of the best stargazing in town. Jasper National Park was recently named the World’s Largest Accessible Dark Sky Preserve, and this hostel is close to the darkest part. When you’re not staring up at the sky, take in the views of the Sunwapta River, where caribou, wolves and other wildlife reside.

3. HI Athabasca Falls

A stay at HI Athabasca, near Athabasca Falls, takes you into nature’s core. Nearby Horseshoe Lake is ideal for summertime swims, while Fryatt Valley and Athabasca Pass offer trails for cross-country skiing, hiking and mountain biking. Sleep in one of three cedar-panelled rustic cabins and share stories around the firepit for an authentic camping experience. For those who aren’t willing to brave a morning dip in the river, there’s an outdoor shower in summer.

5. Jasper Downtown Hostel

And for those who are driving, free parking is available close to the hostel, and there are lockers for skis, snowboards and backpacks. You’ll also be able to take advantage of free wifi throughout the hostel.

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
