Updated: 31 March 2016
If you needed another excuse to head to Niagara-on-the-Lake (as if the libations weren’t enough), Shaw Festival is back for its 2016 season, opening this weekend. Inspired by the work of Bernard Shaw, Shaw Festival has been staging plays since the early 1960s, producing plays from — and about — Shaw’s era, in addition to contemporary plays that share Shaw’s ‘provocative exploration of society and celebration of humanity.’ Whether you fancy comedy, musicals, or heart-wrenching dramas, the 2016 playbill has something for all. The Shaw Festival’s line-up includes classics such as the ‘bloody brilliant’ musical, Sweeney Todd, by Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim; Chekhov’s masterpiece, Uncle Vanya; the much-talked about production of Alice in Wonderland; and more.
