If it’s literary swag you’re after, look no further. In addition to carrying limited and special edition of reader favourites, there are plenty of Penguin goods, including Penguin Classic mugs, notebooks, and tote bags. The shop, which opened in late August, features floating ledges, immersive displays, and mobile bookshelves which are thoughtfully curated with titles and must-reads. The Penguin Shop will also give readers and consumers access to the people behind its books: the Penguin Picks program features favourite titles from authors, company editors, designers, and more. Customers may even come across their favourite authors, en-route to the company’s office. Brad Martin, President and CEO of Penguin Random House Canada, comments on Penguin’s commitment to their readers: ‘We are continually in search of innovative ways to bring the books we are so proud to publish to readers. As such, we see Penguin Shop as a research and development lab – a place where we can interact directly with consumers.’
In the age of the e-book, the Penguin Shop is a testament to readers’ love of the printed book. Robert Wheaton, Chief Operating Officer, notes, ‘The Penguin brand is synonymous with quality books, impressive design, experimentation, and a great sense of fun. We invite all Toronto readers to visit us at Penguin Shop, and to find those same qualities wherever Penguin Random House books are sold.’
Penguin Shop was designed by figure3, and will operate on flexible daytime hours. Learn more at penguinshop.ca.
