Al Alam Palace

Al Alam Palace is the ceremonial palace of Sultan Qaboos, located in Old Muscat. It is one of the most famous landmarks of the city, and an architectural beauty.
Muscat is difficult to explore because of its size – a huge city hemmed in by mountains and the sea on its northern and southern ends, making its various constituent towns tens of kilometres apart – and its limited public transport options. I spent a fortune to get to old Muscat, where the city began and where the Al Alam Palace now resides with two Portuguese forts flanking its left and right.
