Jaffa, one of the oldest ports, has over the years become a trendy and charming place away from the hustle and bustle of central Tel Aviv. The Jaffa Port Gallery itself is a historical attraction which inspires a strong impact on the designers’ design work. Jaffa natural charm combined with fashion entrepreneur Galit Reismann’s style was sure to be a success.
The first weekend‘s theme was the textile trade. Visitors could find both graphic feminine and masculine pieces. The combined modern materials with vintage colours fit perfectly with the trend. The weekend was dedicated to Israeli fashion and textile designers that combined handmade fabrics in their work, creating contemporary and unique fashion items. Some notable designers participating were Adi Raffeld-Podhorzer and Adi Sharon.
The second weekend, focused on jewelry designers, most of whom are Bezalel and Shenkar graduates. The event featured contemporary designers working with innovative materials such as concrete, silicon and metal. Notable jewelry designers participating were FABRICA by Efrat Habani, and PUNKT Jewelery by Natalie Shabtai.
This exhibition is an opportunity for young designers such as students from Bezalel and Shenkar College to gain exposure. Moreover, this exhibition is not only a good occasion for the students in Art and Design but is also an event dedicated to the fundraising on behalf of the Megemeria School, operated by YEDID – the Association for Community Empowerment. The school offers a unique chance for Ethiopian immigrants to go through training and employment, which will facilitate their social and professional integration into the Israeli society.
